ACCREDITED PRACTITIONER (FIRE SAFETY)

The Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation (EPAR) 2000/2021 and associated amendments, requires that an Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety):

  • endorses plans and specifications for relevant fire safety systems for existing and new buildings

  • endorses fire safety performance solution reports

  • endorses design compliance in relation to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) for installation works to existing relevant fire safety systems

  • assesses the ongoing performance of essential Fire Safety Measures in a building and endorses the Annual Fire Safety Statement.

Building owners are required to select an Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety) from the Fire Protection Association Australia (FPAA) for the assessment of essential Fire Safety Measures.

The NSW Government has established a co-regulatory framework that relies on the expertise of industry associations to accredit individuals with the skills, knowledge and experience required to be competent fire safety practitioners. Only practitioners with accreditation from an approved organisation are recognised as an Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety).

The Fire Protection Association Australia's accreditation scheme is in force. The scheme covers:

  • endorsing the design of relevant fire safety systems: sprinklers, hydrants and hose reels, fire detection and alarm systems.

  • assessing the performance of essential Fire Safety Measures for Annual Fire Safety Statements.

Has your building been put under a Council Fire Safety Order or needing a BCA fire audit?

Needing to respond within the required Council time frame? Our professional competency will ensure our clients receive accurate and efficient advice to provide the owners with the most cost-effective solution to satisfy the Council’s Fire Safety Order.  Part of the process we provide, based on our expert competency, is a strong ability to negotiate terms of Fire Safety Orders with Council.

Part of a Council Fire Safety Order remedy is to provide a Building Code of Australia (BCA) audit of the building to determine the most cost-effective solution.  We provide a complete service that will inspect and report on the deemed to satisfy (DtS) provisions to meet the performance requirements of the BCA.

One of our specialised services with BCA audits is for Hospitals and Aged Care Facilities within NSW Health.

Needing an Annual Fire Safety Statement or Final Fire Safety Certificate?

It is a requirement of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation (EPAR) 2000/2021 and associated amendments for owners to provide an Annual Fire Safety Statement and to ensure that the building has been assessed by an Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety), ie by our qualified and experienced Fire Services Engineers. An Annual Fire Safety Statement is also required to demonstrate when the building is assessed that it was capable of performing to the standard required by the schedule list of Fire Safety Measures.  We carry out inspections and provide a written report to enable the client to submit a compliant Annual Fire Safety Statement and to display this Statement on site. We can also provide Annual Fire Safety Statements by electronic submission to both the local Council and Fire & Rescue NSW as required by the relevant EPAR legislation.

Seeking independent third-party advice that is compliant with the legislation requirements to protect your building and its occupants from physical and legal risk?

Our consulting company is able to provide occupant fire safety in a cost-effective way and communicate effectively with Council to negotiate common sense compliant solutions that meet the intent of any Council Fire Safety Order.  Our technical personnel have years of experience of dealing with Council on fire safety matters on various levels to satisfy the owner’s legal obligations. For example, some matters are best negotiated with Council with building original design legislation rather than using current BCA requirements especially if it is in relation to structure issues of an existing older building.

We pride ourselves on being industry leaders aligning with FPAA to provide a number of fire services to large healthcare organisations, Aged Care Facilities, through to residential and commercial buildings.

This is achieved by a Fire BCS Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety) who has unrestricted accreditation for all categories of Fire Safety Measures in buildings in Design, Certification and Annual Fire Safety Statements.

Testimonials

We approached Fire BCS after our building was put under a Fire Order by Council. David’s quick response to action, our strata committee saved a lot of money and time by rectifying and getting what seemed to be a headache sorted. Now we know we can sleep at night knowing our building is fire safe. We have found the right person to carry out our Annual Fire Safety Statements. Pleasure to deal with.
